As much care is taken in training our instructors as with training our students. In the numerous styles and schools of martial arts there are many talented martial artists. However, talent in performing the arts is not necessarily an indication that you will be well taught. Many fine martial artists have difficulty passing their talents on to would-be students. White Lotus instructors study their own specialized curriculum in addition to the basic student curriculum that they will teach. Much time is spent on honing the ability to "bridge the gap" in transmitting knowledge and working with the unique physical and intellectual make-up of each student. Kung Fu, Tai Chi and Kali are all extremely adaptive arts in which one disciplines the mind and body through practice to be an inseparable entity. Later, however, each of these arts can be modified to utilize the unique characteristics of each individual's make-up. Therefore, our instructors are taught to hone each student's innate skills to be in tune with the art form that they are studying, eventually bringing the individual to mastery of the art and the self. Only then will the art become part of the practitioner to be shaped, at will, to his or her needs. |
