Hi Everybody,
We seem to be growing in
numbers every week and I am enjoying teaching all of you. There may be
a point at which I pair you up to facilitate the working of the one on
one technique. The following are some pointers, reminders and complements
about your progress.
I hope you are working your
Shaolin basics, Littlewing. You have agility, youth and a fine mind and
now you need to strengthen your torso and legs to develop your balance.
I also think moving the fan will develop your poise, flow and accuracy
of positioning. I enjoyed teaching you and hope you will contribute to
the kids web page in any way you choose. Work
the basics daily (I will be checking up) and reward yourself with the
fan work. Shaolin, keep setting
a good example for Littlewing and make sure you remember the fan sequence
it is your very own. We will continue to work this way a little longer
and then get historical and rigid, conforming to a particular style. Perhaps
I can extrapolate a series of fan basics and defenses that become standardized.
Blade, I noticed a lot of
improvement in the technique because of the footwork drills and your baston
rolls came a long way. It is important to progress physically and mentally
with the techniques and you did. I was very encouraged. Remember keep
your knives taped. I am working on getting some cheap balisongs that can
be dulled down for drills. You are going to have a tough time with siniwalli
practice because I think you have only one stick. Hope you are practicing
we-wei over the weekend. Ask me what this means when you see me. Hope
the empty hand combinations are coming together. I am freed from fixating
on your wrists now, so work on unification of the body in motion.
For your information my
perfectionist friend, The red belt is the symbol of the master in Japan.
So the Koreans took it and used it in place of the brown belt, just to
tick the Japanese off. Politics and infighting what else. Your notebook
seems to help you organize and keep good track of the techniques. You
really ran the gamut this week so think about interrelationships. I did
forget to check your footwork, you will not be so lucky next week.
Old
Timer, keep in mind all the applications of the art. You have come very
far on an interesting path. But for next time list all the possibilities
for applications of the art. Don't leave out every day, social or yin
possibilities. This might be a good question for all of you to work on
for next week, why do I do this? Look inward.
Hey Germany, hope I don't
scare off the coworkers this week. You will be getting mail.
The rest of you and all
of the above keep the shoulders down,. Work loose to tight. Be ready to
give up control only to regain it at the proper moment and never be off
balance. If this is not enough text for you all this week go to the philosophy
button and click. There is some general stuff I wrote a long time ago
(ancient wisdom, I guess) about practicing the art in general. Have Fun.
