Shaolin Five Formed Fist

Shaolin Five Formed Fist is a very large and complete system of Chinese martial arts training which traces its lineage back to the Shaolin reformation of 1644. It preserves, for modern practitioners, the core disciplines of Shaolin. These include training in the styles, forms, and techniques of Northern Shaolin, Southern Shaolin, Chuan Fa, Chin-na and Gao-ti, traditional Chinese weapons, martial arts and health nourishing Chi Kung, and martial theory and philosophy. Included in this training are numerous internal and external animal based styles, such as Tiger, Leopard, Snake, Crane, Dragon, Monkey, Butterfly, Bear and others.

Headmaster David J. Everett studied this system with various Master's and Grandmaster's of the Koushu Federation of The Republic of China, including: Grandmaster Daniel K. Pai, Grandmaster Wu Jen Dai, Master James Cravens, Master Manfred Steiner, and other Masters based on Taiwan, Hong Kong and the U.S. and Canada. Mr. Everett is a 7th Higher Level Master of this system of traditional Chinese martial arts. Our student curriculum is very broad based and exposes the aspiring practitioner to all aspects of Chinese martial arts training, including: numerous stretching, strengthening and tempering and conditioning exercises; simple and advanced closed and open hand techniques; all manner of kicking and leg techniques; stance training and stance maneuvers and footwork training; open hand, weapons, and two person form study; pre-arranged and spontaneous self-defense training - including traditional and modern theory and concepts of self-defense training; and graduated sparring drills and sparring practice. Our student curriculum is divided into eight levels (or ranks) and has been developed and taught for over twenty years to literally thousands of students. There are written manuals and videos to supplement the training, and we hold specialized workshops and seminars with visiting teachers and the Headmaster to supplement and broaden our student's base of knowledge.

Classes focus on traditional training for health of the mind and body, personal growth, and self-defense training - not sport, competition or rank achievement. The dedicated student of Five-Formed Fist Shaolin will find that with perseverance that not only will greater health and vitality be his/hers, but that they will become very proficient in all areas of martial arts: all ranges of combat, striking, grappling and joint-locking, escape and counter-attack, empty-hand and weapons offense and defense, and traditional and modern martial theory and philosophy. After the practitioner has achieved the rank of First Higher Level, he/she will have the opportunity to continue studying the General Curriculum, or he can specialize in one of the sub-divisions, such as Northern Shaolin, Southern Shaolin, Crane, Tiger, Chuan Fa, etc.

Additionally, the other systems taught at White Lotus, Pekiti-Tirsia Kali and T'ai Chi Ch'uan, make great supplements to training in Five-Formed Fist (and are complete systems in and of themselves). Truly, Five-Formed Fist Shaolin is a system which one could study and practice for a life-time, and like life itself, always find more to learn!!
